Close Up of Greek Chicken over Rice Bowl

Greek Chicken Instant Pot is my recipe version of a classic Greek flavor of lemon, garlic, cumin, and cinnamon. You are going to love this recipe. It is easy to make and in the pressure cooker, it can be done in less than 30 minutes.

    Greek Chicken Instant Pot

I simply cannot get enough of this chicken. For this recipe I use chicken thighs. They stay more moist than chicken breasts. I find my self-making it ahead of time just to have in my fridge. It is so versatile because you can serve it over rice or just make a simple sandwich out of it for a quick bite to eat for lunch. It even reheats well in the microwave. Did I just say microwave? This chicken is also great if you are meal planning.

How to Cook Greek Chicken in Instant Pot

If you are making this in the Instant Pot it can be made with FRESH OR FROZEN chicken. The process is the same.

Season the chicken with the salt, pepper, adobo seasoning, paprika, cinnamon, cumin and oregano. Then add a cup chicken broth, garlic, and lemon juice. Add the sliced onions on top of the chicken and then drizzle the chicken with olive oil.

Put lid on Instant Pot and turn valve to SEAL. Push POULTRY button on Instant Pot and set cook time to 12 MINUTES.When cooking is complete do a QUICK RELEASE of pressure by opening valve while being careful not to get burned. (Use a wooden spoon to turn valve.)Remove chicken with tongs being careful not to break up the chicken into pieces and place on foil lined sheet pan.Press CANCEL on Instant Pot the Press SAUTE and set to MORE setting. Let left over liquid chicken cooked in come to boil for 5 MINUTES to thicken. While waiting for that goto next step.

How to Cook Greek Chicken in Slow Cooker

This Greek Chicken Recipe can also be made in your slow cooker. The recipe is the same. The cook time is 6 hours on LOW or 3 hours on HIGH. When the cook time is over you should do the extra step and crisp the chicken up on a sheet pan for a few minutes. This really makes a difference in the flavor and the texture of the chicken.

Broiling Chicken After Cooking in Instant Pot or Slow Cooker.

Turn your oven to broil and set rack to TOP position. About 3 to 4 inches from heat source. When broiler is HOT place sheet pan under broil for 2 to 3 MINUTES. Watch the chicken the whole time to prevent burning.

Sounds great, but when do I add the lemon juice?

You just add the lemon juice right to the mixture before you put the lid on. I actually just used one packet of True Lemon which is an all natural dehydrated lemon powder. If you are interested in that for future use the stuff is great and there is a link to it on the recipe page. The juice of half of a lemon will work just fine as well.

Made this tonight. Didn’t have thighs but had large boneless skinless breasts. Cut them about size of thighs. Instruction said to use poultry setting which I don’t have so used same time pressure cook. Msybe 1 min. less next time. This is SO GOOD. Love the spices used. Don’t have adobo so just added a bit of everything that is in adobo. My sauce didn’t thicken but I like it anyway. Will definitely make this again. Looking forward to trying more of your creations😋

This recipe was delicious! Even my picky husband loved the flavor. I didn’t see where to add the lemon so I added it When I was reducing the sauce. Seriously good!

Just add the lemon in when you put all the ingredients in the instant pot.

This was fantastic. I don’t have a Poultry button so used the Manual setting for 10 min. I also used frozen chicken breasts instead of thighs. Other than that, followed the recipe exactly. Hubs said it was the best chicken I’ve made in the Instant Pot. Served with orzo, seasoned Italian green beans and a green salad. Thanks for dinner!!

Never mentioned when to add lemon juice. Minced garlic bottom of pot .then said put chicken in bottom of pot. Then minced garlic. Was confused

We loved this!! The only thing regrettable is not doubling the recipe when I made it! Everyone gobbled it up at dinner so we didn’t have much leftover for lunch the next day. What little I saved was delicious heated up the next day. Will make again SOON! Thanks!

Made a batch as soon as I saw this post since I always have boneless skinless chicken thighs in the freezer. I only did 10 minutes since I always let it NPR and added just half a cup of chicken broth considering the chicken were frozen and came out 👌🏽 and still had more than enough sauce. One serving eaten over brown rice and the rest with toasted garlic naan, sooo yummy! I planned to make a bigger batch tomorrow for sharing🐸🤗

Loved this recipe. I made it with whole, frozen chicken thighs and substituted Greek seasoning for all of the spices … a huge time saver for me and absolutely delicious. I tossed in a halved potato and served it all over basmati rice with black olives and a little feta cheese.
